Heat the olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium-low heat until melted and combined.

Add the sliced onions and salt. Stir to coat evenly.

Cook the onions slowly over low heat, stirring every few minutes, until they become soft, deeply golden, and caramelized. This usually takes 30–40 minutes.

During the last 5 minutes of cooking, drizzle the balsamic glaze or balsamic vinegar over the onions and stir well to coat.

Taste and adjust salt if needed.
